This past weekend I visited the Castle and gardens at Groot-Bjigaarden (Grand Bigard in French), just outside of Brussels. It was a stunning springtime location and included my two favourite photography subjects – beautiful gardens and beautiful architecture.
One of the beautiful architectural features of the Groot-Bijgaarden castle is this beautiful five-arched bridge over the moat. This is the only way into the grounds.
In the background of this image you can see the castle. I struggled with this one in post-processing as the castle has quite a lean to it (a common trait in older Flemish architecture). I compromised on this crop.
If you’d like more detail about my trip to the Groot-Bijgaarden, please read my article, Garden Photography at the Groot-Bijgaarden. You can check out a few of my favourite photos from the shoot below and have a peak at my Groot-Bijgaarden video.

Love your photography. I lived in Belgium from 1982 – 1986 and visited the beautiful gardens. I am putting together a program for our Rarity Bay Garden Club in East TN. Do you have any suggestions as to which of your slide shows would be best or if you have another presentation we may use. Looking for ideas and the program would be approximately 15 minutes.
Thank you.
