La Loft

As promised, I have some more photos of the loft. You still can't see the dining room because it's full of boxes. If they ever appear to install my stairway railing, I'll be able to finish unpacking. Keep in mind that the bedroom is a work in progress as well. We haven't painted yet and IKEA has not been cooperating by having the storage boxes I want in stock. I was able to find 2 in the right colour on Saturday... I need about 6 more. In happy news, my kitchen finished, and I LOVE it. So let's start there on our virtual tour, shall we?

Loft-9.jpgThis is the kitchen as viewed from the hall coming into the loft. All of the things you will see hanging on the walls were our addition. We're going to have a lot of holes to fill if they want us to take it all down when we leave. The kitchen space it pretty small though so there'd be no way I could function without the extra storage space.

Loft-10.jpgThis is my favorite corner of the kitchen - the spice corner. Andrew has taken to calling me the Mistress of Spices, after a cheezy movie we watched, but I really do use them all - a lot. I'm sure I have a lot of things on those rack that no one has ever even heard of before but I love finding and experimenting with new spices. I also love the fresh herb pots. There should be one more with coriander but he got a bit wilty so I need a new one.

Loft-13.jpgThis is taken from the back of the kitchen looking back toward the entryway. (You may notice Buddy... He followed me around while I was taking the photos and kept popping into them like Waldo). You can see the back of the bar here (definitely need some cool stools for that) and the stairs up to my office.

Loft-12.jpgClose up of the knife and tool racks. It is sooo nice to have all of my tools right at hand. You can also see 2 items I can't live without - my mortar and pestle and my Jamie Oliver Flavor Shaker (I know, I know, I'm a cooking geek but you wouldn't complain if you got to eat my food).

Loft-14.jpgThis is the other side of the kitchen taken through the opening for the bar. You can see the stove, oven and microwave. You can also see the fridge and freezer... they're camouflaged :)

Loft-19.jpgTa-dah! Did I mention I love the freezer? It's HUGE... ok European huge anyway :)

Loft-18.jpgMoving out of the kitchen you can see one of our red walls. This cabinet is one of the pieces we had to buy to give us a bit more storage. It has some overflow kitchen stuff and the all important liquor cabinet (essential for surviving Belgian bureaucracy). You can also see a tiny bit of the other red wall in the forbidden dining room, Waldo, and the bedroom.

Loft-15.jpgHere's a little sneak peak at the bedroom.  It need some paint and some cat-proof storage, but it's getting there.

Loft-16.jpgHere's the master bathroom with the nice bright (non-brown!!) towels we got on the weekend. They are the softest towels I've ever had - Yay Habitat! As you can see - still no shower door, even though I stayed home all day on Friday and waited for it to arrive.

Loft-17.jpgClose up of the sink and we actually have a big mirror - another Yay!

Loft-21.jpgSo, I debated posting the office because it's still a mess but chances are it will always be a mess, so here you go :) This is where I'm sitting right at this minute. You can see the skylight overhead of which I posted pictures of the view in the last post. The stairs are between my desk and the green and white drawers. You can't tell because there is still no railing... not that I'm bitter about sitting home all day Friday when it was sunny and now can't go out because it's raining... nope no bitterness here...

Loft-22.jpgBehind my desk is another skylight and lots of built in storage. Behind the ratty looking IKEA chair (why do I specify when everything we own is from IKEA...?), in that dark void is a big crawl space for storage where we put the kitty litter boxes. It's also Buddy's favorite hiding spot when the world gets too loud and scary.

Loft-23.jpgMy craft table - where everything I didn't know where to put went to die (and Waldo-Bud).

Loft-24.jpgAnd finally the futon that was kindly donated by our friends when they went back home. This is where Andrew and I will sleep when you come to visit... For now it is the cat haven - Buddy or Orange is always here.

So that's it for now. I've just been told that they are coming to install my doors and railing on Wednesday. We'll see. Cross you fingers!

You've done a great job with the little time you've had to move in. I love functionality of the kitchen and the colour on the red walls. The teal in the bedroom rocks too.

Thanks Jenn! There's still room for you guy to visit too :)

I am very jealous. Your place is gorgeous.

Thanks Megan :) It's a bit strange living in the middle of a huge city but I'd like our place to be a bit of an oasis from that... an oasis with cats :)

Pretty impressive for your first castle ... 'bout time that swedish chair company started promoting the alison line of modern stylish euro living ... they could be rich! ... in the meantime, I think you've got a great place in a great location and should be careful about who and for how long you invite folk to let you sleep on the futon! ... love to Waldo and his sibs and the castle keepers ... PP

PP - The Alison line would be great... lots of red and orange accents and BIG PHOTOS! That's the next step in the castle decoration plan :) As for the futon... no one will want to sleep on it for too long :)

Hey! This looks dandy, convenient, and cozy! All challenges aside, I still do miss Brussels from time to time :P

Alison - your new apartment in the city is gorgeous - I am happy for you that the walls aren't yellow and the bathroom isn't brown - although I never noticed until you expressed your disgust with it! Enjoy your new home and I can't wait to see it over a bottle of wine and some of your cooking! Miss you! PS: You are way more settled than I am!! When you coming to visit?
